Our History
Smile Central had its beginnings in Biloela, Central Queensland, where it was founded in 1999 by Dr Chris Lauf BDSc. (QLD) and his wife and business partner, Dr Theresa Lauf (DPhil). In 2006, Smile Central expanded to Brisbane and eventually sold the Biloela practice in 2008.
Our city patients have noticed that there’s something special about Smile Central and have benefited from our country beginnings. Our down-toearth approach, where we treat every family like our own, and where generations of families trust us with their care, still holds true. Being a one-stopshop for all types of treatments (there being no other practices or specialists for hundreds of kilometers) also meant convenience and highly integrated and efficient care. Country folk and coal-miners don’t suffer fools, having treatments prolonged or smooth sales-talk. They want to know what’s best for them straight-up, accurate costing and to have the best treatment delivered quickly so that they can get back to doing what they need to do with confidence. They can’t afford to have dental work fail while they’re out mustering; racing against time and weather to bring produce to market; or on roster out at the mines. We respect that and continue to deliver optimal care in a clear and no-nonsense, practical way, always. Through continuous education and investment in cutting-edge technology, we continue to deliver exceptional care for each generation of patients we serve, no matter where they’re from or who they are.
