Orthodontic Braces. Brisbane
When your teeth are correctly aligned, it improves the overall chewing function, look and abilty for your teeth to last a life time. Straight teeth offer more than just an aesthetic benefit, they can actually help you to improve the health of your gums, teeth, speech and underlying skeletal jaw bone. At Smile Central, our gentle dentist will not only examine your teeth individually, but also assess the overall function positioning of your upper and lower jaws. Often many different dental issues could have been prevented if orthodontics had been performed in younger years.
Luckily, orthodontic correction can be done at any age and the benefits last a life time. Traditional braces are the most reliable and trusted option when it comes to orthodontics.
If you feel that your teeth may look similar to these, then orthodontics is something we would highly recommend that you consider to improve the condition of your dental health.
How do traditional braces work?
Gone are the days when a thick metal band was placed around each and every tooth. Orthodontic fixed appliances are now slim lined and can be made of metal or ceramic. They may be removable or they may be fixed onto to the teeth with an adhesive. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, appliances are designed and adjusted to slowly move teeth into more optimal positions.
You can choose brackets that are clear or metallic, and you can choose the colour of the ligature ties that hold the wire in place. Wires are far less noticeable than they used to be and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort than ever before.
Every 4-6 weeks during your treatment Dr Chris Lauf, orthodontic dentist see’s you to monitor tooth movement and make adjustments along the way. Usually to achieve long lasting full correction, orthodontics takes anywhere between 1-3yrs.
After optimal correction has been achieved, the braces are removed, leaving you with a complete transformation of your smile and condition of your teeth. It is very important that the teeth are held in their final position, so all of our orthodontic patients are fitted with removable clear plates, called retainers to continue wearing. The clear retainers are very comfortable and ensure that your teeth don’t move back, change or relapse.
During orthodontic treatment, it is imperative that your teeth and gums remain healthy without other issues like decay or gum disease creeping up on you. Our patients have the benefit of visiting our hygienist for regular 3-6 monthly clean and fluoride treatments to prevent any of these factors coming into play. The benefit of visiting Smile Central in Aspley for traditional orthodontic braces, is that you can be assured the general health of your teeth underneath the braces is also being monitored along the way when you also visit us for routine dental check and cleans.
How do I know if I need orthodontics or can benefit from braces?
Visit for a normal dental check up
Firstly a detailed examination of your teeth and jaws is required to ensure they are healthy and deemed ready for orthodontics soon. Orthodontic treatment is not recommended until the mouth is in a healthy condition, without any signs of gum disease or tooth decay. During a normal dental check up with us at Smile Central, you will be advised if you are suitable for orthodontics. Next step is simply to commence a detailed orthodontic assessment.
1st appointment : A series of dental records including multiple radiographs (x-rays), photographs, impressions to make models of your teeth are required for Dr Chris Lauf to analyse, measure and formulate a suitable course of treatment specifically designed to correct your orthodontic problem. A 3D face scan (CBCT Imaging) is also conducted to ensure enhanced accuracy in diagnosis and detailed planning of your case.
2nd appointment : 1 on 1 consultation: Dr Chris Lauf presents a summary of clinical findings and diagnosis, explaining treatment options available to achieve the results you desire. This is the best time to ask all the questions you may have about orthodontic treatment and how it will impact you or your child. An estimate of costs will also be presented for your further consideration and health insurance rebate enquiries. We recommend and facilitate monthly payment plans for orthodontic treatment .
