Unfortunately, accidents do happen and can result in serious dental injuries. It is important that this concern is not brushed aside but addressed immediately by a dentist.
Visiting the dentist promptly after experiencing trauma to the mouth could be the difference between saving or losing a tooth. Additionally if you are experiencing persistent dental pain, this is a sign that something is wrong and prompt treatment is imperative. In the event of a dental emergency, we urge you to call our office so we can see you ASAP. Dr Chris Lauf is available after hours Monday to Friday and has set times throughout the day for emergencies.
In the event that you have suffered an injury causing a tooth to fall out, call us immediately. We will instruct you to locate the evulsed tooth and store it in your mouth, under your tongue as you make your way to our Aspley clinic. The dental practitioner will assess the site of tooth loss and determine your options. The sooner you get to the dentist with your tooth, the greater the chance our dentist has to save it.
If you have sustained a broken tooth, it is important to rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. Place a cold compression on the area in order to minimise the swelling. Contact your dentist to book an emergency appointment. We will assess the extent of damage and provide you with the best form of treatment.
If you are experiencing a toothache, do not ignore the pain and drown it out with medication. It is better to be safe than sorry, so contact your dentist for an emergency visit. Addressing the problem as soon as possible will save you time, money and further agony. When you experience a toothache, you should rinse your mouth with warm water and gently floss around the tooth to ensure no food debris is caught between your teeth.
Note: Do not put any form of painkiller adhesive against the gum surrounding the aching tooth as it could burn the gum tissue.
